Privacy

Privacy, plainly.

No fog, no fine print. Here's exactly what this site collects, where it's kept, who else touches it, and how to make us delete it — in the same plain English as the rest of the site.

Who we are

Maarifa is a small design and build studio working across Nairobi and London. When this policy says “we”, it means the studio — and we're the people responsible for the data this site collects. For anything about your data, the fastest route is hello@maarifa.studio.

The whole policy

What we collect,and why.

Five short sections, in plain English, so there's nothing hiding in the small print.

  1. 01

    What we collect.

Only what you hand us on purpose. When you send an enquiry, we get what you type — your name, your email, your WhatsApp number if you add one, and the project details you describe — plus a note of which page sent you here, so we can reply with context.

If you ask our website check-up to keep an eye on a site, we store the email address and the web address you gave us, and nothing else. There are no advertising or analytics cookies on this site, and we don't track you around the web.

  2. 02

    Why we hold it.

To reply to you, and — if we end up working together — to do the work. For Site Watch, to send the monthly note you asked for. That's the whole list: we don't sell it, we don't share it for marketing, and we don't build a profile of you.

The legal basis is your consent (you chose to write to us or sign up), or our legitimate interest in answering an enquiry you started.

  3. 03

    Where it lives.

Deliberately small. Cloudflare hosts the site and stores form submissions in its database, on servers in Western Europe. Resend delivers the email that tells us you got in touch. UKBox, a UK email provider, hosts our own inboxes where your message lands. Each only ever sees what it needs to do its part.

No Google Analytics, no trackers. The only things kept in your browser are the functional choices named in the cookie notice — review them any time via “Cookie choices” in the footer.

  4. 04

    How long we keep it.

As long as it's useful to the conversation or the work, and no longer. Enquiries that go nowhere get cleared out; if we work together, we keep what the project and our records need, then remove it. Site Watch data lasts only until you unsubscribe — there's a one-click link in every email.

  5. 05

    Your rights.

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, stop using it, or hand you a copy to take elsewhere — and we'll do it. No forms, no hoops: email hello@maarifa.studio.

If you're ever unhappy with how we've handled it, you can also complain to your data protection regulator — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.

This page is meant to be readable, not lawyerly. If a line here isn't clear — or you want your data changed or removed — a plain email is all it takes.
